Tiger Prawn Penaeus monodon

Giant meaty black tiger prawns farmed in the warmer waters of the Far East are among the most popular prawns in the UK. Small coldwater prawns from the North Atlantic (Pandalus borealis) are also available.

Appearance

A semi-transparent body, from pale brown to bluey grey marked with darker bands. They have a narrow, tapering body under which the tail is curled, long whiskery antennae and a brittle shell.

How To Cook

When cooked, the shells turn pink and the sweet meaty flesh turns white tinged with pink. Great pan-fried, grilled, barbequed and added to strong spicy sauces.
