Join Jonathan’s fish masterclass at the Malton Food Lovers Festival

Well known in Yorkshire as a mecca for all things foodie, Malton Food Lovers Festival is a celebration of the very best Yorkshire produce and cooking.  Ramus Tuna Tartare resizedThis year not only are the likes of Levi Roots, Valentine Warner, Prue Leith & Diana Henry taking starring roles, but our very own master fishmonger Jonathan Batchelor will be taking to the stage in a variety of demonstrations, tutored tastings and masterclasses.  From fish filleting to tuna tasting and recipes including Sea Bream with Pancetta, Halibut with Salsa Verde and Tuna Tartare, Jonathan will be sharing his passion for seafood through cooking, chatting and tastings!

The festival itself is free to enter but there are a variety of ticketed events for which tickets are selling fast. Here are details for all of Jonathan’s events.

Saturday 23rd May

–          15:00 – 16:00              Malton Cookery School Masterclass – this is a private class with up to 12 people

A hand-on masterclass to learn skills and techniques for preparing and cooking fish.  In true Fish to Dish style, Jonathan Batchelor from Ramus Seafoods will show how to fillet, prepare and cook Sea Bream with Pancetta with the opportunity to eat the dish at the end.

–          16:30 – 17:30              Seafood Masterclass in Malton Town Hall

A tutored tasting for up to 30 people.  Jonathan Batchelor of Ramus Seafoods will demonstrate how easy it is to create delicious dishes with raw and smoked fish.  Jonathan will make an easy, tasty paté as well as his legendary Tuna Tartare, a great summer dish and one of the recipes in the Ramus cook book FORTY.

Sunday 24th May

–          17.00 – 17:30              Live demonstration in the Chef’s Theatre – this is in the Milton Rooms at the heart of the festival with a capacity of up to 250 people.  Here Jonathan will be demonstration how to prepare and cook Pan-fried Gigha Halibut with Salsa Verde, whilst talking about the story behind the fantastic sustainable fish that Ramus sources from the Scottish Hebridean Island of Gigha.
